Tenaris manufactures a wide range of seamless cold-drawn tubes and components for driver, passenger, side and curtain airbag inflators.

The tubes used for airbag manufacturing are subjected to the strictest standards of quality control and must meet the most demanding dimensional and functional requirements. Their critical factors are clean steelmaking, mechanical characteristics and very close tolerance in terms of thickness and eccentricity. When an inflator deploys, the tubes undergo high stresses at an extremely elevated strain rate. We have developed carbon low-alloy steels which guarantee high-strength properties combined with excellent resistance both to burst and impact toughness even at low (-40°C) temperatures.

We supply tubes suitable for hot, cold or warm forming. In our automotive component centers, we can perform cutting, cold forming and machining operations such as turning, drilling and milling for global airbag manufacturers.

Tubes for Hybrid Inflators

Hybrid inflators combine a small explosive charge with the presence of a cold pressurized gas. We provide passenger, side and curtain hybrid inflator vessels which are manufactured by cold forming processes and subsequent machining operations.

Tubes for Pyrotechnic Inflators

Pyrotechnic inflators, which use a gas produced by the rapid combustion of a special solid propellant to inflate the cushion, usually require perforated tubes containing an explosive device and a cartridge of solid propellant. We supply a wide range of driver and passenger pyrotechnic inflator tubes manufactured according to each customer's design.
